The golden standard for colitis studies is dextran sulfate sodium (DSS), which is used to induce colitis in experimental animals. A concentration of 2-4% DSS in the drinking water have been shown to induce clinical symptoms in mice. The dosage in all experimental animals should also be adjusted in accordance to the requirements of your study – a milder onset of colitis or a more aggressive response. DSS from TdB Labs have been used to study colitis for almost 30 years. Currently there are more than 300 published studies where DSS from TdB Labs have been used to induce colitis.
