Structure
DEAE-dextran is synthesized from controlled dextran fractions by reacting with DEAE-chloride. The predominant substituent is the single tertiary group (blue) but this may react further to yield a “tandem” group containing a quaternary amine as well as the tertiary amine. A titration curve reveals the proportions (Fig.2 in datafile).
Storage and stability
DEAE-dextran is stable for more than 6 years when stored dry in well-sealed containers at ambient temperature.
Solubility
DEAE-dextran dissolves readily in water.
Application
DEAE-dextrans are used in various areas, for example as adjuvants for vaccines, in transfection techniques and viral infectivity, and for stabilization of proteins (enzymes). Read more about application here.
