Blue dextran has long been a staple in biochemical and analytical workflows, but its capabilities extend far beyond its traditional role. While lower molecular weight variants (e.g., BD70, BD500) are useful for diffusion and permeability studies, high molecular weight variants (e.g., BD2000) remains the most widely used due to its robustness and reproducibility across biochemical and biophysical research involving chromatography studies, affinity interactions, permeability and barrier integrity testing, drug delivery and molecular biology.
