Connection between the reduction of DSS-induced colitis severity in mice

Did you know that even though cigarette smoke is linked to a higher risk of developing Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBS), cigarette smoke is also inversely correlating with the development, disease risks and relapse rate of ulcerative colitis (UC)?

A new study in scientific reports (Nature) are showing that cigarette smoke can modulate the DSS-induced dysbiosis (microbial imbalance), which can contribute to resolve the inflammation or accelerate the recovery. Even though the risks of smoking will always outweigh any possible benefits, the study lays the foundation for investigating potential molecular mechanism responsible for attenuation of colitis. DSS from TdB Labs were used to induce colitis in mice in the study.
